# Marketing and Advertising # This page contains information on marketing and advertising. ## Public Blast ## When ready, a public announcement should be made: * Facebook - Friends who have 300+ friends, especially friends who like to cook * Twitter - Famous Chefs, local chefs * Directories - Yahoo, Go * See the Google Docs spreadsheet for details ## Additional Reading ## http://www.slideshare.net/mattangriffel/how-we-unexpectedly-got-60k-users-in-60-hours ## Target Markets ## * People who have recipes from magazine clippings (e.g., over-50 grandmothers) * People who like to post pictures of their recipes on their blogs ## Legion of Editors ## Contact a number of editors (such as local talent) to add their favourite recipes to the site. These need to be people we trust and who have made exceptional dishes. ## Clandestine Preview ## When the site has been tested and is ready for go-live, inform the legion of editors. They must be told that this is simply a preview to have them get a feel for the site and solicit feedback. ## Wikipedia Links ## Consider the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cr%C3%A8me_br%C3%BBl%C3%A9e We should be ready to add "External Links" to many common recipes. We should also make sure that the recipes we have are excellent examples of these versions. We should also make sure that the links do not violate Wikipedia's rules. [Blogger Contacts](Blogger Contacts) ## Local Chefs ## Contact local chefs and have them use the site. ### Recipe Book Blogs ### Blogs about writing recipe books: * http://www.davidlebovitz.com/about/ * http://justcooknyc.com/about/ * http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2008/06/how_to_write_a.html * http://www.betterbaking.com/viewArticle.php?article_id=20 * http://www.vietworldkitchen.com/blog/2011/02/-how-to-get-a-cookbook-published.html * http://www.foodarts.com/about * http://www.gourmania.com/articles/right_recipes.htm * http://heritagecookbook.com/about-us ### Facebook ### * https://www.facebook.com/pages/Food-Fanatics/469950829727369 ### Twitter ### The site followerwonk allows people to search twitter feeds for keywords. * http://followerwonk.com/bio/?q=recipe%20book ### Recipe Books ### Create and announce recipe books that are collections of the best recipes from: * Cooking StackExchange * Reddit ## Strategic Partnerships ## We can make strategic partnerships with sites that provide answers: * http://www.ehow.com/ - "How do you make Creme Brulee"? * http://www.ask.com/ Feed these sites the raw data. ## Acquiring Customers ## Read the following article: * http://lukethomas.com/simple-ways-to-find-potential-customers/ ## Recipe Scavenging ## Find numerous recipes online; download and contact the owners to let them know how they can create their own high-quality recipe book. ### Niche Recipes ### Food-based recipe niches include: * Antiquated recipes (https://prospectbooks.co.uk/telegraph) * Alcoholic beverages (http://www.webtender.com/db/ingred/155) * Famous recipes (http://pastebin.com/EeDkSDVr) * Medieval recipes (http://recipes.medievalcookery.com/) ## Synergy ## * http://cooking.stackexchange.com/ * http://www.dvo.com/website-import.html * http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook ### Cooking StackExchange ### TBD ### Recipe Organizer ### If the website-import has API to normalize recipes, we should leverage it. Otherwise, we should take a look at their targets and duplicate their efforts. ### WikiBooks Cookbook ### Consider a script that: 1. Waits for a recipe to be 30 days old. 1. Checks Wikipedia to see if a recipe by the same name exists. 1. Sends an email asking to automatically edit. 1. Human verifies the site and confirms. 1. System updates the Wikipedia page with a link. Except for the verification stage, it would take practically no effort to embed a link from Wikipedia back to RZ. We can import all their recipes into RZ, normalize them, and then send them back. They have over 60,000 links, which ranks them pretty high. If we can get some type of synergy going, we'll hit #1 on Google for recipes in no time. ## University ## Regarding University: * Consider getting feedback from University students. * Think about the expanse of their social networks. * Make data available to people who need high-quality data sets. # Picture
